When my Virtual Oscilloscope was mistaken for just a picture!
Years ago, I developed a virtual oscilloscope simulation using Flash. It became quite popular among physics teachers in Lebanon, including my daughter’s teacher. One day, I discovered he had printed the interface of my simulation on paper and was using it to explain the functions of the oscilloscope to his students.
I wondered why wasn’t he using the simulation itself to show the functionality in action? I assumed the school lacked the proper equipment.
Years later, after Flash became obsolete, I rebuilt the simulation in JavaScript and shared it with teachers for testing. To my surprise, that same teacher revealed something shocking: all this time, he had thought my virtual oscilloscope was just a static image for illustration, not a live, interactive application!
This story always reminds me how much work we still have to do in Lebanon to bridge the gap in technological literacy among educators!
